Tom, I have been using iCloud Drive since day one, I don't have to sign in once I have signed into the Apple ID on my computer. I would have to sign out of my Apple ID to cause me to have to sign in again to access the iCloud Drive. I tried it just now, I 'saved as' an Excel spreadsheet to the iCloud Drive, shut down all software then re-started the computer and launched Excel, I then opened the spreadsheet from within Excel all without having to sign in to my Apple iCloud account. I do the same thing with Adobe InDesign, I have never had to sign in to the iCloud due to re-starting (or cold starting) the computer. I find the iCloud drive more convenient than DropDox in use, although I still use DropBox for file exchange to non Apple users. May I suggest you check that there isn't a tick box somewhere that says 'Keep me Logged in to my account' which needs ticking? That is something I have never experienced once in relation to my Apple ID. Another suggestion regarding ways of overriding unwanted 'features' is Tinker Tool, an alternative set of preferences which are VERY useful For example I don't want my screen shots to be TIFF, Tinker tool allows you to select from several file formats, I use JPEG. I dislike the translucent menu bars and headers, in Safari they are a downright nuisance making stuff in the header difficult if not impossible to read; if you look in 'Accessibility' in the Apple preferences you will find the control to reduce transparency (which actually seems to remove it completely!). Also If you hate the magic mouse acting as a track pad as I do you can also turn that off in 'Accessibility' too. I use a proper TrackPad, having the mouse act as a track pad at the same time isn't ideal when doing fine editing of text, the curser can easily select something entirely unwanted and the results can be extremely vexing. I have just started experimenting with LightRoom interchange with my computers and my iDevices. Took me a little while to understand it, but now it has filtered through the servers it seems to work well. I am interested to see it it also works between desktop and laptop, maybe not...
